Individual Therapy
If you have intentionally come to this web page you are more than likely in some sort of pain.
Maybe you are confused, anxious and frustrated. Maybe you are sad and depressed, or angry, or battling with a debilitating fear. At the very least you are curious, and maybe looking for more meaning and purpose in your life. Seeking a psychotherapist for any of these reasons, or even for some reasons I have not mentioned, is wise and a good first step in bringing some order and relief into your life. I am a trained and experienced therapist that will approach your individual issues in all of the conventional manners, but I can also bring something more to the experience.
I am a transpersonal psychologist, schooled in the art of depth psychology which assumes that there is more to the human experience than a bunch of chemicals and physical particles interacting with one another and at times causing conflict. I do not typically treat symptoms (although at crises times quick relief may be the order of business, and then it is best to treat in any way that will put the burning fire out.) I recognize the whole person, the emotional body, the intellectual mind, and the spiritual soul.
Personal and compassionate psychotherapy as personal counselling is a journey that anyone can benefit from in some way. Although in our culture it is unfortunately often times considered reserved for those suffering from serious mental issues or disorders, in fact, working with a caring counsellor can heal a variety of difficulties that are far from being considered profound mental illness. Certainly many issues are rightly classified as illness, but I do not label my patients, and consider them to be whole and complete even as they face their difficulties or confusions. Even from the darkness of despair positive growth can come. In our work together, I will draw on a variety of techniques to bring that whole complete person back into awareness and experience.
It is by going down into the abyss that we recover the treasures of life. Where we stumble, there lies our treasure.
~Joseph Campbell
Many of us are seeking a better quality of living, a clearer vision of our goals and a firmer grasp of things that have meaning in our lives, in our work, and in our relationships. Whether we are suffering from a serious malady that overwhelmingly disrupts our ability to live our lives comfortably, or we just feel that we can do better than we are currently doing in achieving our life’s goals and dreams, transpersonal psychotherapy informed by a depth psychological perspective can be highly effective in our journey toward a clearer awareness of our natural state of wholeness.
In addition to conventional talk therapy, I often work with patient’s dreams, art therapy, music therapy, sandtray therapy, and a variety of other methods that are designed to delve into the unconscious and seek out hidden processes and “scripts” that may get triggered to play out at various times. Issues that individuals come to me to investigate include, but by no means are limited to, depression, anxiety, loss and bereavement, life transitions, mid-life crises, loneliness, low self-esteem, communication issues, relationship issues, personal quest for meaning, spiritual growth, issues with work and career, artist’s creative issues, past life issues, men’s issues, happiness, and a general desire to have a more fulfilling and purposeful life.
